Breath of God Lutheran Church is a young, multi-cultural, progressive Christian community in Southeast Baltimore. We see the Holy Spirit doing great things in these neighborhoods: working to bring love, justice, hope, transformation, and new life. Our hope, prayer, and goal are to be a key part of that holy work among our neighbors of all faiths and backgrounds. A worship service of Holy Communion takes place each Sunday at 10:30am.

Due to concerns related to the ongoing pandemic, many of our regular programs are limited, and many of our meetings and classes are taking place online. Sunday worship, at 10:30am, is a hybrid service. People are welcome to participate in person on via Zoom. Please visit the "Worship" page to learn more. All people inside the church building, for any reason, are required to be masked. All church and school staff are required to be vaccinated. Please do not enter the building if you are feeling sick, out of concern for the health of everyone in our community.

We welcome you to our website, and invite you to look around. If you have questions, comments, thoughts, or prayer requests, we would love to hear from you.

I was glad when they said unto me “Let us go into the house of the Lord.” (Psalm 122:1)

At the center of Christian life is worship, the gathering of God pople to pray and sing together, hear God’s Word, be washed in the water of baptism, and be fed at God’s table. Worship ought to be rooted in the patterns and practices Christians have shared for 2,000 years, while drawing on music and on style from the diverse cultures of our neighborhood. All are invited and welcome to worship and to receive Holy Communion.

Our regular 10:30am Sunday community worship opportunity takes place simultaneously in the sanctuary and via our Zoom channel and YouTube. In warmer weather (April through November), Stoop Worship and Lively Worship both usually take place outdoors.

Sermon Archive

Along with other Lutheran Christians in the ELCA, we believe in a three-fold engagement with the Word of God. That is to say, the Word of God is, first and foremost, alive in Jesus Christ. Secondarily, the Word of God is proclaimed in preaching, study, song, and prayer, inasmuch as it points toward God's love for us in Jesus Christ. Thirdly, the Word of God is written in Holy Scripture inasmuch as it helps us to understand God's love for us in Jesus Christ, which informs our proclamation of the Word. You can listen to a selection of our Sunday sermons here.

“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:36-39)

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God. Since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:7, 11)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus. (Colossians 3:16-17)
